Residences at Meadow Brook - Affordable Housing Project
The Town of East Bridgewater has received the following documents in connection with the proposed affordable housing development – The Residences at Meadow Brook – proposed for a property near the Whitman town line on the west side of North Bedford Street/Route 18. The project consists of forty duplexes (a total of 80 housing units) on the west end of the property near Winter Street of which 20 will be classified as “affordable” (sold to households with incomes meeting certain standards) and four 40-unit apartment buildings (a total of 160 units of which 40 will be “affordable”) on the east side of the property and on the west side of Route 18/North Bedford Street.
The Board of Selectmen is considering whether to enter into a “friendly 40B” agreement with the developer. In a friendly 40B development, the developer works cooperatively with town boards to minimize density, improve setbacks, or blend architectural aesthetics with the neighborhood.
If the two parties cannot reach agreement on these aspects of the project, the developer has the right to pursue the necessary permits for the project without the support by the Board of Selectmen.
